Local Dining Out Report for January 2017

Wednesday 18th January 2017

The evening was a little chilly, even some ice on the ground but none of it put off our hardy diners. As the coach wizzed around from pickup point to pickup point we were soon all on board and off to the Yew Tree at Odstock. Our driver Jeff carefully got us as near to the entrance as he could and we were soon filing in through the front door, feeling the warmth from the lovely log burning fire. With seating chosen or before in some cases the bar was all ours and we were soon seated and deep in conversation.

Our main courses were served soon after 8pm. All of our preordered choices were really excellent, tasted superb and went down a treat with everyone. You can see pictures of each of the choices below. Some of these pictures were taken before additional vegetables were served. I can say, first hand that my choice of the Salmon was one of the best I have had in a long time.

Belly Pork
Beef Lasagne
Sweet Chilli Baked Salmon
Lager Battered Cod & Chips
Veggie Stack [V]
Beef Brisket

Our thanks to Alison who went round selling the raffle tickets earlier in the evening and to several diners who provided raffle prizes. We make a short break before our desserts to draw the raffle, everyone collecting their prizes and drawing the next ticket. By the end of the evening we had made a profit of £81.01 which will be on its way to The Stars Appeal at Salisbury Hospital. We will be supporting the Salisbury Trust for the Homeless in February.

The desserts were certainly worth waiting for! As you can see from the pictures they all looked really good and as far as I can understand, tasted as good as they looked. After dessert some people continued drinking whist others went on to complete the evening with a coffee or tea. We were all nicely relaxed, warm and comfortable, especially considering the weather outside. Before long it was time to say goodbye, board our coach and head for home. We were so pleased with the whole evening that we have now booked to return for our Christmas Dinner on the 20th December.

Forest Fruits Cheesecake Cheese and Biscuits Creme Brulee
Apple Crumble Eton Mess Bread and Butter Pudding

For our next Local Dining Out Dinner, we will be returning to The Trusty Servant at Minstead near Cadnam on Wednesday 22nd February 2017.
