Local Dining Out Report for September 2016

Wednesday 21st September 2016

Another really nice evening visiting the Avon Causeway Hotel at Hurn. Our first stop was the bar where we were able to sit and enjoy a drink or two before we made our way into the Pullman Railway Carriage, through the main building, located beside the old Hurn Railway Station Platform.
The dining tables had been changed since our visit last year, each table allowing more room for four diners. The tables for two people, in the traditional carriage layout had gone. This year the bar at the end of the carriage was open, for bottle drinks and we were served by our own barman, George.

Our main courses started to arrive soon after we were all seated and service was very swift and expertly handled. Some people had a share of extra portions as we had two people who had unfortunately cancelled at the last moment. Our group of 31 diners filled the carriage really well. Unfortunately one or two people who had the Beef Strononoff did say their plates and contents were cold. If this should happen another time can you please let me know immediately or better still bring it to the attention of the waiting staff who will always make sure you dinner is perfect for your requirement. Some people did mention this and they received immediate help and attention.

Desserts were served a little later after we had finished our main courses and the plates had cleared. Really nice again such lovely choices. I had my usual choice of Cheese & Biscuits, this time I had just Cheddar cheese along with biscuits, chutney, grapes etc. It was all just lovely following my fantastic Fish dinner.

This was our first evening selling raffle tickets for the RNLI, our new charity starting this month. With several prizes available, some donated on the evening, thank you, we managed to raise £58.26. Our thanks also to those who helped to fold the tickets. We will continue with this charity next month. Finally we had our dining ticket draw for the box of Maltesers before leaving the carriage to board our waiting coach at around 10pm.
